- Johanan ben Kareah
- (fl. 6th cent, BCE)Israelite military commander, active in Judah at the time of the destruction of the First Temple (Jeremiah 40-43). He supported Gedaliah and warned him of Ishmael ben Nethaniah's treachery; after Gedaliah's murder, he prevented Ishmael from carrying away prisoners. Out of fear of Babylonian reprisals, he went to Egypt along with other exiles including Jeremiah.
